I have been associated with the Church all of my life. My great grandfather was a preacher and my grandfather was a preacher. I have been a baptized believer for 42 years. Having been a deacon and was an elder for 28 years, I say this to let you know that I am familiar with church problems and their consequences. I know what families and individuals deal with every day. I have prayed with them, cried with them, laughed with them, rejoiced with them, and yes, buried them.

With all these years of experience, the matter to be put forward in this article is the most serious and devastating to our families, children and parents, and the church as a whole that I have ever encountered. It is so serious that I intend to devote the rest of the time God grants me to try and stop its encroachment on all people and especially those of the household of faith.

A Frakenstein computer monitor with arms reaching outward This problem is so large and so insidious that I have had a difficult time preparing an article that can accurately project how bad it really is, but I must try. Whether or not you are aware of it, it is affecting or will affect your family and friends. All of us are aware of the drug problem that pervades our nation. We can't turn on the T.V. without hearing about drug users, drug dealers, or the crimes they commit to purchase this poison. I want to talk to you today about what you don't hear about on T.V. The networks don't discuss it and neither does the print media. It's the Drug of the New Millennium! It isn't prescribed by doctors--you can't purchase it on street corners or get it from a pharmacist. In fact, it's not a chemical or a plant. It is delivered to your home or office at any hour--night or day--seven days a week--24 hours a day--by machine.

Its Name is Pornography

It is delivered to your home or office via the Internet on a computer you purchased! It is only a mouse click or a keystroke away at any time. It can even pop up when you open your e-mail or misspell a web site address.

Man looking at a computer monitor It is just as addictive as cocaine or crack or marijuana. In Mark Kastleman's book, The Drug of the New Millennium, he details treatment programs that have been set up at clinics to treat porn addition. The more you see, the more you want to see. The more you want to see, the deeper you become addicted. While we were trying to get Playboy and Penthouse off the magazine racks, the Devil was building a super highway into our homes. Do not be mistaken, people--this is the work of the Devil.

Please allow me to quote some facts:

I could go on and on, but let me quote you the most shocking:

a group of people looking a computer monitors

Hello--are you beginning to get the picture? If not, then just hang on because it will get clearer.

We mistakenly assume that to enter the porn sites cost money. That is true, but it is also true there are thousands of free porn sites, plus--the for-money sites all have preview pages that are free. Most of the parents I am speaking to are boomers. Boomers as a whole are not very computer literate. They can get around on a computer, but they are not proficient. Your kids are very proficient and can go anywhere they choose.

Pornographic magazines are no longer the main source for porn, and neither are strip clubs (sometimes called gentlemen's clubs), which have been replaced by Internet porn. It can be viewed in the privacy of their own homes. Just shut the door and tune in and it is far more explicit than the law allows in magazines or clubs.

Every time someone objects to Internet porn, they are hammered about "First Amendment Rights." Folks, it is not about First Amendment Rights; it is about Money! Money that the producers of this filth are making. The FBI reports that pornography is the third largest moneymaker for organized crime, superseded only by drugs and gambling.

You may say, "Brother Dunn, I don't view porn!" I say if you have a computer and you surf the Internet, you have or will come in contact with pornography. Some even say, "Well, just because it's out there I don't have to view it." In 2 Samuel 11:2, David walked out on his balcony and saw Bathsheba bathing and sent for her. He did not have to look either, but he did and was hooked. Temptation leads us where we would not go otherwise. Many of us suffer from the "John Wayne syndrome." I am a grown man and I want the option to go anywhere on the Internet I choose. Sure--why not keep some cocaine in your closet? You do not use it, but if you want to it is there. Come on folks--let us get serious. There is no legitimate reason to have porn sites available on your computer! Recent Supreme Court rulings allow porn in libraries and virtual porn (using cartoon characters) depicting children performing sex acts on the Internet. Do not expect the government to help in stopping pornography. It is not gonna happen!

Let me share with you what really frightens me. Serial rapists/murderers admit pornography is their primary interest. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, admitted before his electrocution that it all started from pornography.

The new drug is pornography.

People are the addicts,
pornography producers are the dealers,
and the Internet makes the deliveries!

Please allow me to speak briefly about our children and grandchildren. Matthew 18:6 states: "But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea."

Parents, you are responsible for bringing up your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Do not allow them to be corrupted by Internet pornography. That means you must constantly be aware of their actions on the computer--where they are and what they are doing. Internet service to your home must be filtered for your protection. Never, never, never let them into open chat rooms. Chat rooms are pedophile and predator havens. They will receive unwanted sexual advances. Pornography is not just a problem for children. Mothers and fathers are just as likely as children to visit porn sites. Women are the number one abusers of cybersex chat rooms. You would not believe how many Christian counselors have told me they are counseling more and more families where at least one member is addicted to pornography. They also tell me that a husband or wife has been in a chat room--met someone and has left their mate for the person they met on-line. I have only scratched the surface of the problem of the Drug of the New Millennium. Do you understand why I call it the worst thing I have encountered?

Now, let me give you some solutions and I am through. You must filter your Internet service. Software filters are only about 60% effective, according to Consumer Reports. Teenagers that are knowledgeable can hack around them. The only true solution is hardware based filtering which blocks the porn before it reaches your computer and cannot be hacked. You can go anywhere on the Internet you choose except it blocks porn sites. Let me emphasize once again, filtered service blocks only pornographic web sites--nothing more. It will not interfere with any other function of your computer. It is 99.9% effective.

Never trust an Internet service company that offers either filtered or unfiltered Internet service. They are interested only in your money and not in protecting you from pornography. I could not find one I trusted so I started my own ISP (Internet service provider) with my son, whom is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. We offer only filtered Internet service. It is owned and operated by Christians. The service is available in 5,000 cities nationwide. Whether or not you choose ETHINET as your service provider is not important. What is important is that you filter your computer from Internet pornography. Do you know how God feels about porn? Matthew 18:7 and 9 states: "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come." "And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fires of hell."

I leave you with one question: Why would any Christian ever want Internet service in their home that is unfiltered? It is like bringing a drug dealer home to meet your family. Think about it!
